About our photographers. Martin Smith Martin Smith is the founder of World on Film and its principal photographer. Martin is a travel photographer who has spent the past twenty five years building up a varied and diverse portfolio of images from around the world. Born in Hampstead in 1956, Martin was educated at Harrow Weald Grammar School and the University of Bradford. He combined a highly successful career within the investment banking industry with a passion for photography for many years. In 2001 he started to publish his work, selling via galleries and online, and produced his first book. Since then he has traveled extensively and established a successful company which supplies original photographic artwork to businesses and individuals. Martin was first inspired to photograph landscapes with his first, Russian, camera in the seventies. His early work focused on the UK and Europe but as he traveled further a field he became and remains more fascinated by the exotic and the unseen. In the mid-nineties, inspired by some of Australia’s finest landscape photographers, he developed an interest in world panoramas. Since then he has embraced the power of digital imaging to powerful effect. In his recent work, subjects have ranged form the eerie icescapes of the High Arctic, through the rusty cars of Route 66, to the urban landscapes of central Havana and the indigenous tribes of remote Africa and Oceania. By his own admission his work covers some of the world’s most and least famous places. Although self taught his work is starting to create an impact with artists, galleries and other art buyers. In recent years and through his company World on Film he has built up a base of satisfied clients. World on Film operates out of a converted farm building at Wrotham Business Park just outside Barnet in North London. He now has a busy exhibition schedule including the varied shows hosted at the World on Film offices. Bespoke photography assignments and image licensing are also offered.
